New record-breaking construction in China: In October 2018, after nine years of construction, the Middle Kingdom opened the world's longest bridge crossing the sea and currently the largest infrastructure project on water. Spanning around 55 kilometres, the centennial construction spans the Pearl River Delta and connects the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau with the province of Guangdong (city of Zhuhai) on the mainland. With the over-water crossing, China is optimising mobility, exchange and the transport of goods between the three largest cities on the Pearl River Delta. The bridge winds its way from the former British colony of Hong Kong in the east to mainland China's Guangdong and the adjacent former Portuguese colony of Macau in the west. In the process, it runs over water for 35 kilometres. The rest of the route is divided into a 6.7-kilometre-long tunnel that runs up to 48 metres deep under the seabed and sections that cross artificial islands and the mainland. The 22.9-kilometre-long main bridge and the tunnel in the western part measure about 29.6 kilometres. The bridge has three lanes in each direction. The Pearl River Delta is only about 20 metres deep in places, which is why prefabricated stilts could be used to a large extent. The area of the submarine tunnel and three points of the cable-stayed bridge allow passage for ships.

fischer was mainly involved in the project at the site of the artificial island Zhuhai Port. Among other things, chemical fixing systems such as the Superbond system with the RSB reaction cartridge and the high-strength FIS EM Plus 390 S epoxy resin mortar with system components were installed there. The fischer Zykon undercut anchor FZA was also used.
The high-strength epoxy resin mortar FIS EM Plus 390 S for reinforcement connections and high load values in concrete is ideal, for example, for the challenging operating conditions in the sea coast region, where the structure is exposed to high moisture and temperatures as well as potential corrosion from salty sea mist. To ensure that its functionality is maintained in such environments, the injection mortar underwent extensive testing. The FIS EM Plus 390 S demonstrated its durability in moisture, temperature, ageing and long-term stress tests as well as in corrosion tests involving various media.
The fischer fixing solutions ensure the strength, safety and durability of the fixings. The ease of use of the products, which require hardly any tools to install, was also an advantage in the demanding location of the construction site on the artificial island.
